SME Strategies were delighted to be invited to speak at the Ipswich Property Network on Monday 9 July. I gave a talk on some skills in negotiation, the importance of contracts, planning & the critical path, practical lessons learnt from buying properties to refurbish and sell on (including health & safety issues) and also some issues with buying/selling development land.
I invited my colleague Kirk Vaughan, Client Services Director and Head of Tax at Knights Lowe, to talk us through some tax aspects of property. The Government has made some significant changes to make life less attractive for unincorporated landlords with the devil as usual in the detail and the impact very much depending on a client’s individual circumstances. Kirk’s breadth of knowledge on his subject is outstanding not least in his grasp of nine taxes that impact on property transactions! Several people commented on Kirk’s ability to make complex tax issues understandable to the lay person – a rare feat for a tax expert!
